Have you heard the news? We’re opening a second location! Allegro Dance Boutique is coming to Barrington, IL, about an hour northwest of our original location in Evanston, IL.
I’m going back to my roots, starting out in Barrington the same way I started in Evanston five years ago: by coming into an existing dance store and transitioning it into our vision of what a dance store should be. In January of 2007, I became the new owner of what was then called “Before the Ballet,” a small dance shop that I had been working at for over four years. Fast forward to 2012, and I am now the new owner of Performance Dancewear, a small dance store in Barrington that has been serving the local dance community for over six years. It’s a nice foundation and we can’t wait to make it even better.
Unlike Evanston, where I grew up studying ballet right down the street from Allegro at the Evanston School of Ballet, I’m less familiar with the studios and dancers in Barrington and surrounding areas. We’ve been in Barrington for a month now, and it has been so much fun getting to know a new community of dancers, teachers, and studios with whom the Allegro ladies and I share a passion for dance. It’s rewarding to see a thriving arts community in these western suburbs, where people value the role of the arts in our culture, and dance in particular, just like we do.
I’m spending my time in Barrington about five to six days a week right now in order to gradually Allegro-ize the store, as we call it. We’ll be adding new products and services, and we’ll be updating the look and feel of the space every week.
So stop by, say hello, check out the changes; and if anyone knows where a gal like me can take some adult dance classes nearby, let me know!
